King Crimson is an English progressive rock group founded in 1968 in Bournemouth, England. Defined as perhaps one of the founders of progressive rock, King Crimson has experimented with diverse musical styles and influences, while ranging from the most serene to the most wild and unpredictable pieces. Due to their variety and experimentation, they have become an influential figure in contemporary music while retaining the same essence.

The music in King Crimson is often very complex, rejecting modern standard for rock music or even popular music. The group was also known for improvisation, which they made much use of and have had musical success with it.

Though originating in England, the group has survived with a mixture of American and British musicians since 1981. Through moderate persistancy, the group has changed line-ups frequently, seeing most of its members leave. The only constant in the group is guitarist Robert Fripp, but Adrian Belew has been with the group since 1981, until 2009 and Bill Bruford from 1972 to 1998.

After two hiatuses, in 2009 and 2012, the band reformed once again in 2013 as a septet (and, later, octet) and has toured since then until the recent COVID-19 related regulations. The band members have also been active through a series of related bands collectively referred to as ProjeKcts.
